FAQ's

Q.  Do I need two computers?

A.  Ideally yes.  The whole point of the program is to get an outside view at the same time as flying the aeroplane with PS1.

Q.  Can I run on one computer with two screens?

A.  Yes this is technically possible.  The issue is one of performance.  As far as I know the DOS session for PS1 must be run on the first (primary) graphics card.  This means that you will have to run FS on the second card and so you cannot benefit from hardware acceleration for the FS graphics.  When running all the programs on one computer you will not need a LAN, use the loopback IP address 127.0.0.1.

Q.  Why do I need to run FS in slew mode?

A.  The aeroplane in FS is not actually 'flying', it doesn't matter if its engines are on, if it has fuel or where its control surfaces are.  FS is simply being used to render the scenery.  In slew mode, your 'eye' can be positioned anywhere in FS's world, and that is what happens!  If you turn off slew mode the FS aeroplane will 'fall out of the sky'.

Q.  How can I get rid of the red messages on the screen when in slew mode?

A.  There are some patches available that remove messages such as 'slew' from the screen, check the files section www.avsim.com for more information.

Q.  My 747 looks to be very low on the runway.

A.  Although it doesn't matter which aeroplane type of you have selected in FS from a technical perspective, I have noticed that if you select a larger aeroplane, like a 747-400, your eye height when on the runway will look more realistic.

Q.  FS seems to jump all over the place in slew mode.

A.  Try turning off your joystick using the K key in FS.  If you have a joystick connected to your FS machine, this might affect slew mode and cause the aeroplane to jump around in a strange manner.  Also, if you are using FS2000, ensure that the SceneryInjector has the correct FSVersion set in the options menu, selecting FS98 when running FS2000 causes the aeroplane pitch to go crazy.

Q.  Flying close to the North or South pole crashes FS98

A.  FS98 is unable to fly further north than 89 degrees 30 minutes. Do not try to cross the poles!

Q.  The scenery has a tendency to jerk from side to side, especially during a turn.  Straight and level jerks from side to side every 20 seconds or so.

A.  PS1 presents its heading to the nearest degree.  If the actual heading is 45.5 the aeroplane in FS can only fly at 45.  After a few seconds the aeroplane will be slightly out of position to the left or right and when a position update from PS1 is received the FS view will 'jerk' to the correct place. PS1.3 reduces this 'jerk factor' because it presents heading information to the nearest tenth of a degree.

Q.  When I press F11 nothing happens.

A.  You should ensure that PS1IPCFS and IPC32HSI are started in the same DOS session as PS1.2c.
