In this model, data is extracted from PS1.3 using a file mechanism. In the future, other ways of extracting data from PS1.3 may be possible.
You must enable external data on the PS1.3 preferences page, this will cause PS1.3 to generate a file every second or so. (More information about this file and it's format can be found on the Aerowinx PS1.3 CD). The Broker reads and processes this file. You can find more information about the broker and it's functions at the broker web site. Ideally, the broker runs on the same computer as PS1.3. The broker listens out for other programs that connect across a LAN, such as the Scenery Injector, and once the connection is established, data about PS1.3 is passed across the network.
You will normally want to run the Scenery Injector on the same machine as FS2000. You must ensure that you have Peter Dowson's FSUIPC.DLL module installed in your FS2000\Modules directory. This module provides an input/output path to the internals of FS2000. You may choose to run FS98 instead of FS2000, but you will still need FSUIPC.DLL.
Some important changes where made to FSUIPC.DLL at version 1.71 which impact the way the Scenery Injector works. Consequently, the Scenery Injector WILL NOT WORK correctly with FSUIPC versions prior to 1.71. To upgrade your FSUIPC check the links page.
Other programs, such as SBPS1 (Squawkbox for PS1) also use the Broker. SBPS1 can insert SATNET weather information in to PS1.3, and the Scenery Injector picks up this weather and displays it in FS2000 (not FS98). You must decide which computer to run SBPS1 on, and other addon programs such as RogerWilco. The choice will depend upon the performance of your systems; you can always choose to run these programs on a 3rd computer!
